Nothing's perfect

This is what I look like at 6am on a Saturday, waiting for Momma to share her breakfast with me, Momma looks sleepy too FYI. I know what you are thinking. Why the heck are you up at 6AM on a Saturday morning? Well, it's to eat some cheese slices, that allegedly have my nail trim medicines inside.
my sisters got some cheese slices too, but theirs weren't "spiked" . . . they shared Momma's feelings about 6am on a saturday.

You see friends, while I am an all around agreeable pooch, friendly with all of the same species, the human species (large and small) and some others specieses, I am not so agreeable to having my nails trimmed. Hey, nothing's perfect, not even me.

Momma has worked very hard to help dee-centerize (desensitize) me to it, which involves lots of treats and her moving the scary nail trimmers closer and farther to my feets. But honestly friends, while you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, you can not trim his nails! Well, you can, if you have the proper tools. . .
muzzle for safety, dremel (some dogs do better with a dremel than nail clippers), sedatives, and thank you presents for the vet staff (peanutbutter cheesecake nutella brownies i helped, errr, watched, SUPERVISED Momma make)

After a while, I start to feel a little funny, calm, a little sleepy, almost like my legs don't work.
you can sort of see how long my "talons" are in this photo
And thats when I know it's time to leave. Now then, forget that I am about 12 years old, and forget that I have some germs, and forget that I am under the influence of the spiked cheese slices . . . I LOVE LOVE LOVE going for car rides!
My friends at the vet clinic were very sweet to me. And my nails were trimmed without a hitch (okay, I said one not nice word, and my Auntie's in the scrubs tattled to Momma about it). Back at home my sisters gave me the once-sniff-over, and were very curious where I went. Frankly, I was too darn tired to chat . . .
The mani/ped looks good though eh?! I'm lucky to have my Momma, and Auntie's in the scrubs who don't mind my imperfections. ;)

Kibble therapy

Ador-A-Bull Dog Rescue got a donation of kibbles the other day (hooray, the rescue always needs kibbles) but it's not the kind they can use, so, they decided to "pay it forward".
So last night Momma TOOK ME WITH HER (i love love love car rides!), to donate the kibble to a familiar place. That small rural animal shelter that took me in once upon a time.

While we were there I got to see the nice lady that runs the place, and she almost cried she was so happy to see me! I told her about my wonderful life, and my sisters, and I smiled the whole time.  So a happy night for all of us, and some happy tummies for the shelter dogs.

Have a great weekend everyone!

note from Quinn's Momma; having a bad day? feeling a little blue? Kibble therapy is powerful! Any shelter, but especially the small town/rural shelters can always really make use of donations. It doesn't have to be big, a bag of food, or grab a few bones (dog knows shelter pooches would love something to relieve kennel boredom), and go introduce yourself, maybe spend a few minutes with a couple of the animals who's lives you are enriching. Trust me, it works wonders to "pay it forward" ;)

Weekend in review

I hope you all had a great long weekend friends, my sisters and I certainly did! And Poe did too!
On Friday night she actually did some RELAXING!
Beans told me she likes Poe better when she's not trying to stand on her face!

She also did some training with Momma - such a smart cookie that one - talk about "will work for food!"
Momma also spent some time talking to new friends, people friends, who were very interested in helping Poe on her journey to be adopted. So when Saturday rolled around, we had breakfast and a morning play and then Momma packed up Poe's stuff and off they went to meet these new friends!
Poe met a wonderful dog names Dante. She LOVED him and he loved her! They like to play the same, equal energy levels, and they also enjoy the dirt! (and Dante's people don't mind that one bit - SCORE Poe!)
It's a match made in heaven, and these nice people have been wanting to help a rescue dog for a while (Dante is a rescue too!), so for now this is where Poe will stay.
Momma says sometimes when fostering a dog, no matter how much she and I love the dog, a decision has to be made for whats best for all involved, in this case, Poe, and my sisters (though they were being really good about the pogo-stick puppy in the house). I know there will be another dog that will come and stay with us soon enough . . . These people did a good thing for Poe and the rescue, my Momma and my sisters are very greatful (and i am too!)
